Ras Al Khaimah is about ninety minutes north of Dubai, and the reason to go is Jebel Jais. The road to the summit viewing decks is sealed, wide and well engineered, climbing through switchbacks with the plain falling away behind you. It needs no special vehicle and it is the most interesting hour of driving in the country.
The temperature drops as you climb, which is the point in the warmer months — the summit can be pleasant when the coast is not. The zip line and the viewing decks are booked separately by you; we get you there, wait, and take you down again.
On the way back, Al Marjan Island and the waterfront make a natural late stop before the drive south. A full day of up to ten hours is from AED 700 including both drives, fuel, Salik and parking. A one-way transfer, if that is all you need, starts at AED 550.
