How Much Luggage Fits in a Dubai Chauffeur Car

Almost every awkward moment at a Dubai airport pickup comes down to the same thing: more luggage than the car was booked for. The trolley arrives with two large cases, two cabin bags, a pushchair and a set of golf clubs, and the saloon waiting outside was quoted for three passengers with three bags. Nobody is at fault, exactly — the booking form asked how many people, and the honest answer to how much luggage tends to be a shrug. This guide is the shrug replaced with numbers.

What the bag counts actually mean

When a chauffeur company lists a car as taking three bags, it means three large check-in suitcases loaded flat in the boot, not stacked to the parcel shelf. Cabin bags, backpacks and handbags travel in the cabin with you and are generally not counted, which is why a family of three can often manage in a saloon that looks undersized on paper. Where the maths breaks down is with anything that is not suitcase-shaped: a stroller, a golf bag, a musical instrument, a stack of exhibition materials. Those do not fold into the gap between two cases, and they are the single most common cause of a car being sent back.

The honest capacities, class by class

• Executive and EV saloons — the BMW 735i or BYD Han take three passengers and three large cases. Comfortable for a couple or a solo traveller with real luggage; tight for three adults each with a full case
• Electric SUV — the BYD Song Flagship takes four passengers and four bags, and the higher boot floor handles awkward shapes better than any saloon
• Premium SUV — the Cadillac Escalade seats six with five bags, though be aware that on most large SUVs the last row of seats and full luggage capacity are the same space. Six passengers and five cases is optimistic in practice
• SUV XL — the GMC Yukon XL is the exception, with a genuine boot behind the third row: seven passengers and six bags without compromise
• Group van — the Mercedes V-Class 300 carries seven passengers and seven bags, which is the only combination on this list that comfortably handles a full car of people all travelling with full luggage

The rule that saves most of the trouble

If your group fills the seats and everyone has a check-in case, book a van or the Yukon XL rather than an SUV. Passenger count and luggage count are competing for the same cubic metres in almost every vehicle, and a car that is right for six people going to dinner is not the same car that is right for six people arriving from Heathrow. Sizing up costs a little more per journey; sending a car away at Terminal 3 and waiting for a second one costs an hour.

Dubai-specific cases worth mentioning

Golf clubs are common here and deserve a specific mention when booking — a hard case will not go in a saloon boot alongside luggage, and often needs a van even for two players. Shopping is the other one: guests who arrive with two cases frequently leave with three, so an outbound airport transfer, from AED 130, sometimes needs a larger car than the inbound one did. And if you are collecting exhibition stock or event materials, say so plainly, because boxes load very differently from suitcases.

Child seats take luggage space too

A fitted child seat occupies a passenger seat, and a folded pushchair occupies real boot space — usually the equivalent of one large case. For families, the practical answer is normally a van, where seats, seats for children and luggage stop competing with each other.
